Kriser's Donates $25,000 in Supplies to Greyhound Rescue

Check out our slideshow of the greyhounds on hand at Kriser's.

A pack of greyhounds was on hand at Kriser's, a pet supply store at 12507 Ventura Blvd., to highlight the store's donation of $25,000 in  food and supplies to The Homestretch, a local greyhound rescue and adoption organization.

Kriser's, a Chicago-based pet-supplies chain with two stores in Southern California, ran a contest on its Facebook page, asking people to vote for their favorite local animal shelter or pet rescue group.

The Homestretch, which is dedicated to saving greyhounds formerly used as racing dogs, received hundreds more votes than its closest competitor, said Kriser's founder and CEO Brad Kriser. In all, about 2,800 votes were cast.

The store also announced that the runner-up in the contest would receive $5,000 worth of supplies.

One volunteer for The Homestretch said the group focused on greyhounds because once they're no longer fit to race, many of these dogs are left without owners. The group has about 20 dogs that it takes care of.
