LOS ANGELES, CA - LAPD Chief Charlie Beck Monday is nursing an injury he suffered while riding his off-road motorcycle in the Tehachapi Mountains with a group of friends.
Beck fell Saturday on a rocky trail and broke his pelvis but was able to ride his cycle back to his truck and drive home. He visited a hospital emergency room, where the broken-pelvis diagnosis was made, according to a Los Angeles police statement.
Beck has been a competitive off-road motorcycle rider for the past 40 years and is a current and past National Police and Fire Champion, according to the statement.

"I want to thank everyone for their well-wishes as I recuperate from my recent motorcycle mishap," he said. As always, I am in constant contact with my LAPD command staff and will be working diligently while I recuperate to continue leading the men and women of the LAPD.
Doctors say Beck will return to the office within the next week and make a full recovery, police said.
