At Last -- The Trophy Husband!

It was inevitable.

We all knew it would happen but could never seem to figure out exactly when. After decades of watching our culture change with a huge push from Betty Friedan, Bella Abzug and Gloria Steinem – the feminist movement barreled in by storm. It arrived under many titles including feminism, women’s lib, women’s rights, equality, the smashing of the glass ceiling, role reversal, gender shifting. We waited, watched and safely predicted the arrival of the trophy husband. He has finally arrived. The overachiever female has burst through the gates with formidable energy and has overtaken the alpha male. She is in charge. Over the years we’ve seen a shift in the male role model. At last he now seems comfortable being a house husband -- cooking, cleaning, tending to diapers and car pools. Sometimes he’s frazzled and just too worn out to go out for dinner but he cleans up nicely and still remembers how to get down with his dance moves . We began noticing a trend when a super wealthy real estate mogul divorced his wifefor a younger model. The ex-wife positioned herself in a niche occupation which took off and nearly eclipsed the holdings of her ex. She became a big cheese who hired a young male assistant. Before long she saw huge potential in his cooking, baking and puttering in the garden. She was amazed by his elegant taste. Instead of working in her company she put him in charge of her household. She eventually married him -- thus the trophy husband was born.

Over the years we’ve watched many a super-powered woman hire a younger male assistant who was able to double as a date, partner, colleague, travel companion, driver and bodyguard. The female, CEO of a multi-national corporation, seems to need the handsome Ken doll as the pace-setter of her entourage. She will see to it that he is dressed exquisitely, groomed by the top skin and hair people and has meticulous manners. He’ll be driving a classic Corvette, an Aston-Martin or Bentley convertible. He will be richly rewarded with everything his heart desires and plenty of spending money.

As long as he behaves and always shows his appreciation, that is.
