Let's make it difficult for the "bad guys."

CRIME: SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

Hi all,
I attended the Neighborhood Watch Meeting this evening. While there, Officer Lewis conjectured that crime is up due to the fact that CA was mandated to release 40,000 prisoners who were victims of the Three Strikes law. That law has been overturned creating the release of 40,000 (facetiously) pot smokers and druggies. Do you think those 40,000 people who now have criminal records and are out there trying to get a job and start over? Do you know a lot of people hiring ex-cons? We have more homeless now. Do you think perhaps that number grew due to those released from prison now unable to make a living, pay for rent, buy food, etc?

They are the people burglarizing cars, homes, and selling the “loot” to stay alive, or buy more pot, drugs, or booze – not for me to say. It will take some time to assimilate that number back into be contributing citizens – if it can be done at all.

Officer Lewis gave the audience (as he’s done so many times before), simple, inexpensive, proven methods to “take care of your property” and deter crime. He jokingly said to take the proper measures and the “bad guys” will leave and go try your neighbor’s house.

So let’s get to work and take care of ourselves and our “stuff.” We cannot expect the police to ever be on site when these kinds of crimes occur.

If you were unable to attend, I’m sure Officer Lewis would be happy to make his laundry list of “what works” and distribute it to the neighborhood email lists.

Thanks, be safe.
