Low-Flying Jets To Mark 70th Anniversary Of Supersonic Flight
The Air Force is commemorating the 70th anniversary of Gen. Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier today: BREAKING

LOS ANGELES, CA — The U.S. Air Force is commemorating the 70 th anniversary of Gen. Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier today with a formation of four high-performance fighter aircraft that will fly over parts of Orange County and los Angeles.
Yeager flew the Bell X-1 supersonic at Edwards Air Force Base on Oct. 14, 1947, forever changing the dynamics of aviation.
The jest, including an F-15 Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II from Edwards Air Force Base, will be at an altitude of 1,000 feet above ground level for most of the flight that is scheduled to take place between 12 noon and 1 p.m., according to a statement from the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base.

The aircraft will fly over a number of schools will. One formation will pass over the Antelope Valley and Bakersfield. The other will fly over cities including Long Beach, Costa Mesa, Rancho Palos Verdes, Santa Clarita, Canyon Country and Palmdale.
