MAETAR can best be described as “World Groove Eclectic Funk Jazz” with a Middle Eastern flavor…. Their strong, funky rhythms are haunting, innovative, meditative, exotic & intricate, and their music speaks of peace, happiness & reconciliation that reaches across cultural boundaries. Brothers Hagai (horns & keys) and Itai (bass) were born in war torn Israel on a kibbutz. They started making music at the age of six and four. Their love of soul, jazz, classical lyricism, and sacred tribal music from around the world led them to create MAETAR, a setting in which they could create this fusion of sound & cross cultural collaboration. If Miles Davis & Jimi Hendrix had a baby in the Delta of the Nile, and George Clinton was the midwife, it might sound like MAETAR. Joined by the amazing drummer/world percussionist, Richard Fultineer, this trio performs concerts for human rights & peace. MAETAR headlined Topanga Earth Day, We the People festival, and the Global sound conference & also won the Hard Rock festival’s ‘Battle of the Bands.’ MAETAR had the honor of collaborating with legendary drummer, James Gadson (Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, Paul McCartney), on their momentous & most recent album, The Gift, in which Gadson is heard like he’s never been heard before… completely free, without any genre boundaries. MAETAR has also released two critically acclaimed CDs on Organic Music, which have been a favorite on local radio stations, & their compositions have been used in TV & film. Their CD, The Gift, has earned the attention of tastemakers & filmmakers alike. Visit www.maetar.com to hear samples of their music or see video clip from several of their live shows.
