Mom Plans to Plant 13 Trees at Carpenter
It's a step to add more greenery to the asphalt blacktop at the school.
Amy Schulenberg, the mother of a first grader at , came up with a plan to get rid of 298 feet of asphalt in the school yard.
“I’m a mom, but I also went to school here too,” she said. “And I’ve also helped plant 4,000 trees around the city.”
Schulenberg is a landscape architect who brought the idea to the school’s on Thursday and got the plan approved for the school—a cost of $1,800 that Parents For Carpenter will pay for.

She showed the council artist renderings of how certain areas will look with pink flowering Trumpet Trees or how a Tipu Tree will help shade the school parking lot.
“The trees will help cool some of the buildings,” she said.

The school lost a large eucalyptus tree in front of the school, and that sparked Schulenberg to figure out where to introduce trees into the mostly-blacktopped school.
Principal Joe Martinez said he has always wanted to have more greenery and grass for the children to play around, and this is a step in the right direction.
