More Birds With West Nile Virus Found in North Hollywood, Van Nuys, Other Valley Spots

Studio City didn't record any mosquito traps or dead birds with the virus.

More tests after the recent rains showed West Nile virus samples in the San Fernando Valley, particularly North Hollywood, Sherman Oaks and Van Nuys. There are also new positive mosquito tests in Chatsworth, Burbank and Santa Clarita.

The Valley recorded the most dead birds found with the virus in Los Angeles County, according to the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District's report released Friday.

This brings the District's total to 162 WNV positive dead birds, 399 WNV positive mosquito samples and 13 sentinel chickens with WNV antibodies so far this year. Statewide, there have been 587 WNV positive dead birds, 1,896 WNV positive mosquito samples, and 252 sentinel chickens showing WNV antibodies. This is the first incidence of West Nile virus in Castaic and Willowbrook in 2011.
