Not Too Much Anxiety for Students Entering North Hollywood High

On the first day of high school the day started a bit late, but on purpose.

The first day of school can be exciting and scary, too. North Hollywood High School started a little late, at 10:30 a.m., and considered it one of the half-day furlough days that the school district is forced to take due to budget constraints.

For some of the new freshman students like Cindy Contreras said, "The first day is difficult just in finding out what friends are in your class."

Sophmore students like Miguel Megia and Harp Cabrera said that as sophomores, they will get more respect. Cabrera said,  "I hope the reputation of the students gets better this year."

Then there are the seniors in the Zoo Magnet class like Cameron Levin who said "I  just stopped by to get their schedules and catch the bus to Griffith Park."

The Zoo Magnet Program is a small high school magnet program started by North Hollywood High School with the Los Angeles Zoo.  It  offers 300 LAUSD students from across the city a challenging college preparatory curriculum focused on animal studies and biological sciences.
