Panel Discussion To Focus On Lighting For Virtual Production
The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers' monthly meeting will feature industry experts, including Paul Debevec of Netflix.

STUDIO CITY, CA —The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) announced Thursday that its October virtual meeting will be titled "Lighting and Color Science for On-Set Virtual Production (OSVP)."
The Zoom meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 27, and feature a group of experts with first-hand experience in OSVP, which is the practice of placing talent into highly realistic virtual sets and backgrounds. According to SMPTE, OSVP is gaining considerable attention across the film and television industry.
Greg Ciaccio, a creative technologist who serves as chair of the ASC Motion Imaging Technology Council's Workflow Committee, will moderate a panel that is scheduled to feature:

- Zach Alexander, founder of Lux Machina Consulting, a company that specializes in virtual production, in-camera visual effects, display technologies and creative screens control.
- Michael D. Smith, a digital imaging and intellectual property consultant who has worked on projects for Warner Bros., Sony Pictures Entertainment, DCI, NOAA, Dolby and DTS.
- Paul Debevec, Netflix director of research, creative algorithms and technology, who has overseen the creation of new technologies in computer vision, computer graphics and machine learning for virtual production, visual effects and animation.
Registration for the free event can be done online, and it also will be streamed live on the SMPTE Hollywood Facebook and YouTube pages.
