Petchakan and her Noho Teammates Ready For Golf Championships
The Thursday tournament in Murrieta could be Petchakan's last high school golf match.
Led by senior Monica Petchakan, the North Hollywood High School girls' golf team will join nine teams and 118 golfers in this morning's CIF-WSCGA Girls' Golf Championships at The Golf Club in Murrieta.
The Huskies won the CIF City Section title on Nov. 1 and will be joined by City Secton runner-up Van Nuys as they take on the best teams and individual golfers from the CIF Central, San Diego and Southern Sections.
The top three teams will advance into next week's CIF State Championships at the Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga.

"All of our girls have experienced this and hopefully that will help us," said North Hollywood head coach Steve Miller, whose Huskies competed as the City Section runner-up in 2009. "I'm hoping we can play like how we did at the city (championships). One score in the 70s and a couple in the 80s. That would be great for us."
For Petchakan, today could mark her final day of high school golf. The two-time City Section champion, who finished second last week, shot a 83 in 2009.

"I haven't played well over there because I wasn't really prepared for it," said Petchakan, who will golf collegiately at the University of Oregon. "I think I will be ready this time around."
Petchakan will be joined by teammates Sara Simon, Frances Kim, Catherine Schlesinger, Samantha Page and Michelle Mekpongsatorn. The top five scores from those six golfers will factor into the team's final score. Aside from the top three teams that will advance to the state meet, the top six individual golfers from teams not in the top three will also advance.
Torrance High School is the defending team champion and will compete today.
