Police ID Woman Killed by Transient Shot In Standoff

Authorities identified a Valley woman held at knifepoint and stabbed by a transient who was shot to death by police in the standoff.

VAN NUYS, CA — Authorities Friday identified a woman stabbed tow death by a transient man in the San Fernando Valley moments before police shot and killed him.

Los Angeles police officers arrived to the scene at the 6400 block of Tyrone Avenue at about 1:10 p.m. Saturday, and on found a man was holding a knife to a woman who had been stabbed repeatedly, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The officers shot Guillermo Perez, 32, a transient, who died at a hospital about 40 minutes afterward, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

"Officers were forced to take action," LAPD Sgt. Frank Preciado told ABC7.

The woman was 49-year-old Elizabeth Tollison. Tollison died at a nearby hospital at about 11:20 p.m. Monday, Winter said. Authorities believe she was also homeless, Winter said.

A witness said the attack was near a church that feeds the needy.
