Hollywood Temple Beth El will sweeten the Jewish New Year for the community with a deep and moving experience for the High Holy Days and year round.Rosh Hashanah Services at Hollywood Temple Beth El, located at North Crescent Heights Blvd and Fountain in West Hollywood, begin this year on Sunday evening, September 13; Yom Kippur services follow Tuesday evening . Services are led by Rabbi Dr. Norbert Weinberg, who has had a distinguished career in education and Jewish leadership. He is accompanied in leading the services by Cantor Alexander Berkovich, as well as Cantor Isaac Boudaie.

Rabbi Dr. Norbert Weinberg has served as Rabbi to Hollywood Temple Beth El in Los Angeles from 1990 to 1996 and has returned to that position since 2013.He has officiated as Rabbi in Texas and Virginia, as well as California and also ran a center for Judaic Studies at Bet Berl College in Israel. He and his wife, Ofra,are also noted educators, having run a private tutoring service that worked with both private clients and the LAUSD. He is author of Courage of the Spirit, on the moral and spiritual courage of Jews and Judaism(www.Couragofspirit.com) and blogs at Vintage Wein (http://vintagewein.blogspot.com).He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Divinities, honoris causa, in recognition of his service as well as his rabbinical ordination and MA from the Jewish Theological Seminary, and his BA from New York University.

Cantor Alexander Berkovich warms his congregants with rich base and baritone voice that he cultivated in his successful operatic career in Russia and Europe. He began his training as a Cantor while chanting at the St-Petersburg Choral Synagogue. He continued his training in Los Angeles was ordained as Chazan by the Academy for Jewish Religion in Los Angeles under the tutelage of Cantor Nathan Lam. Cantor Berkovich is a popular cantorial and spiritual leader to the Russian community of Los Angeles and has led High Holy days services and special events at Hollywood Temple Beth El since 2010.

Cantor Issac Boudaie will be leading the Shaharit services, blending both Ashkenazi and Sefardi modes with his warm baritone voice. He has chanted at services across Southern California for over 25 years, since he began the study of Hazanut at age of 19 under the late Cantor Alan Michelson.
