Jewelry Store Robbers Bring Pepper Spray To Gunfight

Police searched for two jewelry store robbers who took off on foot in Studio City after a store employee shot at them.

STUDIO CITY, CA — An employee at a Studio City jewelry store fired on two robbers tried to rob the store with a can of pepper spray Friday afternoon. The outgunned who then fled into the surrounding neighborhood on foot.

The two men who robbed a Dana Kathryn Jewelry at the 12600 Block of Ventura Boulevard using a can of pepper spray to subdue an employee and a hammer to smash the display cases. But the employee had a gun and fired at the men, who were last seen running northbound on Ventura boulevard, according to Los Angeles police spokesman Officer Drake Madison. There is no indication that either man was struck by a bullet.

Two people who were affected by the pepper spray were taken to a hospital. Investigators were checking security cameras in an effort to identify the culprits, according to LAPD spokesman Josh Rubenstein.
