Schools Gather for an Old Fashioned Sunday Picnic

Valley View Elementary's PTA holds a picnic without electronics, buttons or a bounce house.

These days, hardly any school picnic or even private birthday party doesn't include a blow-up bounce house. 

in Studio City provided the location for an old fashioned picnic, where there were no games with buttons, no electronics necessary, and nothing to blow up.

Students from Carpenter Community Charter School, Rio Vista Elementary School, Walter Reed Middle School, Larchmont Charter, Luther Burbank Middle School, John Burroughs High School, Los Angeles County High School of the Arts and R.L. Stevenson Elementary attended the picnic thrown by the Valley View Elementary School PTA.

"This was a nice way to bring the new parents together with some of the alumni and families going to other schools," said Valley View Principal Susan Kim.

There were tug-of-war contests, egg tosses, three-legged races, obstacle courses and other simple games.

Although Burbank Unified's schools have already started, the Los Angeles district's schools begin on Sept. 7. All school administrators are already at the schools.
