Sierra Club Recognizes Feuer for Legislative Leadership on Environmental Stewardship
This award recognizes Mike Feuer's longstanding commitment to protecting California's natural resources, his support of the California Environmental Quality Act and his authorship of landmark green chemistry legislation.

August 29, 2011 (Sacramento) – Sierra Club California has recognized Assembly Member Mike Feuer (D-Los Angeles) with the 2010 Byron Sher Award for Achievement in Environmental Protection by a Public Official. This award recognizes Feuer’s longstanding commitment to protecting California’s natural resources, his support of the California Environmental Quality Act and his authorship of landmark green chemistry legislation.
“I’m humbled to receive this honor from an organization I respect so much,” said Feuer. “Sierra Club California is one of our state’s leading environmental advocates, and I am proud of the work we have done together to protect California’s natural resources and public health.”
As an Assembly Member, Feuer has prioritized environmental protection and conservation. In 2008, Feuer wrote landmark legislation to diminish the threats posed to Californians by toxic substances. Signed into law by then-Governor Schwarzenegger, this law is designed to break the link between toxics and cancer by granting California officials the broad authority to regulate dangerous chemicals found in consumer products. Feuer remains closely involved in the regulatory and implementation process of this groundbreaking law. In 2009, Feuer wrote the first law in state history to target major reductions in statewide urban water use. The measure, which aims to reduce California’s urban per capita water use 20% by 2020, also requires significant improvements in agricultural water practices.
