Students Join 'Read Across America' in Memory of Dr. Seuss, Who Lived Locally

Elementary schools in Studio City have children not only reading Dr. Seuss books on Friday, but have great anticipation of The Lorax movie, which opens Friday. The date, March 2, would also have been the birthday of Dr. Seuss (Theodore Geisel).

Geisel lived in the hills above and in the 1940s when he first came to the area and was becoming famous as a child author.

Rio Vista already had a visit of The Lorax this week (see photo).

Celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday by joining book lovers and your local school or public library for Read Across America day.

This year, the National Education Association, a group of more than 3.2 million educators who work to improve public schools, is calling on book lovers around the nation to take up The Lorax, the popular Dr. Seuss children's book published in 1971 about the lovable creature who fights to save the environment.
