Studio City Businesses Hurt by Pipeline Project Eligible for $18,000 in Aid

STUDIO CITY, CA - San Fernando Valley area businesses that are struggling due to two ongoing water pipeline projects are eligible for up to $18,000 in financial assistance, the Department of Water and Power announced today.

The nearly 150 businesses affected by pipe installation projects in Studio City and North Hollywood can submit a claim for financial help under the utility's Capital Projects Business Retention pilot program, DWP officials said.

The Studio City project, formally known as phase 2 of City Trunk Line South Unit 4, began in April 2015 and is set to be completed October 2017. The project affects about two miles of streets, along Whitsett Avenue, from La Maida Street to Kling Street; and Magnolia Boulevard, from Leghorn to Goodland avenues.

The North Hollywood project, known as the City Trunk Line South Unit 3, began in July 2016 and is anticipated to be completed early 2022. It affects businesses along Whitsett Avenue, from Vanowen Street to Magnolia Boulevard.

Businesses must be within 100 yards of one of the projects to be eligible, and the application will require documented proof of revenue loss.

Businesses granted assistance can also get technical help on areas such as marketing, accounting and business planning.

The DWP board of commissioners voted this week to add the two projects to the existing business retention pilot program, which has so far approved 23 applications for two other projects.
