Team of Girls Show Leadership in Recycling
The Carpenter Community Charter School girls show responsibility and leadership.

A Studio City mom of a fifth grader from wrote Patch to tell of a remarkable story.
Cindy Northcote-Smith tells it best, so here's the story:
"I would like to tell you about a group of girls at Carpenter Community Charter who made a big impact at the school in terms of being responsible, showing leadership, recycling, working as a team and standing up for what they believed was the right thing to do.
In the beginning of November, fifth graders at Carpenter Community Charter lost their privilege of sitting on the benches and the ground at lunch and recess because some students were not throwing away their trash.Realizing that this was not a solution to the problem, a group of fifth graders: Audrey Cooper, Frannie Davis, Emma Goodman, Madeline Northcote-Smith and Erika Wu decided to do something about it.

Madeline approached Mr. [Joe] Martinez, principal at Carpenter Community Charter, and suggested that they could make posters and put them on the classroom walls outside by the lunch areas or make an announcement to the school about the eating areas and picking up trash.
Mr. Martinez thought this was a great idea and asked her to have her friends do both. They made the posters and the announcement to the school.

This made a huge difference. The school lunch areas are now cleaner and the fifth graders received their lunch areas back.
This group of girls stood up for what they thought was right.
Their motto is "Be GREEN and Keep Your School Clean!"
And so, it is! Much better than before. And they are the perfect Whiz Kids!
