Uncle Andre's BBQ Got Soul

One of the best kept secrets in Studio City, Uncle Andre's BBQ serves up a whole lot of soul food.

Nestled in a strip mall on Moorpark Street, it is easy to miss —one of the best kept secrets in Studio City.  Family owned and operated, they have been in business for the past ten years.

Don’t let the name fool you, though.  Uncle Andre’s serves not just barbeque but soul food, so filling and comforting that it leaves customers coming back for more.

When you walk into Uncle Andre’s BBQ, you’re greeted warmly by any one of the servers at any time.  The intimate setting lends to the warmth of the ambiance and the sense of being in grandmother’s kitchen.  And, then, there’s the smell of barbeque and all sorts of imagined goodness wafting from the kitchen.  By the time you get your hands on the menu, you’re ready to order everything on it!

Uncle Andre’s offers everything from appetizers to sandwiches to a variety of combo plates.  They serve lunch specials from 11am through 3pm, Monday through Friday.

The lunch specials usually include their famous shredded pork sandwich, fries, and a drink.  But, for those who want to experience soul food to its fullest, try their Lousianna Seafood Gumbo, served hot with a side of their delicious cornbread.  Other specialties include Andre’s Catfish, southern snapper, baby back ribs, bbq chicken and the beef ribs dinner.

Not to be outdone by the main entrees, the side dishes are also something to look forward too.  The BBQ baked beans have a smoky, sweet, and yet savory flavor to it; the collard greens’ tanginess is mixed with a hint of sweetness; and the macaroni and cheese is an amazing contrast of cheesy insides and a crispy outer layer.  If you still have room, top off your meal with a scrumptious dessert.  The peach cobbler is always a good meal ender.

The portions are very generous and the prices are very reasonable.  Appetizers range from $3.25 to $7.25; entrees start at $11 to $25; sandwiches are from $7.25 to $9.

Uncle Andre’s is located at 11715 Moorpark St., Studio City.  For pick up orders, call them at (818) 763.8414.
