Walking Dead to Overtake Universal Studios

The Zombie Apocalypse is coming this summer with a new "The Walking Dead" attraction at Universal Studios.

Get ready to scream. Universal Studios Hollywood is creating a new attraction based on “The Walking Dead,” the most popular show in cable television history, according to the theme park.

Universal Studios will open the terror-inducing walk-through attraction this summer.

The new attraction is based on the theme park’s annual “Halloween Horror Nights” maze.

“‘The Walking Dead” attraction will create a no-holds-barred experience that significantly intensifies any other iteration previously developed within the theme park,” said Larry Kurzweil, President of Universal Studios Hollywood. “Coupled with authentic walker make-up effects, sophisticated animatronic walkers, substantially more detailed set design and costuming, and highly recognizable props replicated from the series, the attraction will deliver an uncompromised realistic environment that brings guests even further into the most watched show in cable television history. The Walking Dead’ is a phenomenon that has successfully and consistently affected the psyche of viewers on a global basis, since its debut.”

The frightening new attraction is not recommended for guests under the age of 13.

Universal Studios will team up with The Walking Dead’s” creative team, including executive producer and director, Greg Nicotero and his special effects company, KNB Efx to recreate the look and feel of the show.

The attraction is being built inside a new building near the theme park’s entrance and is part of a five-year revitalization of the park.

AMC’s “The Walking Dead” is set in tense post-apocalyptic America overrun by zombies. According to Universal Studios, it is the top show among adults 18-49, and in its sixth season,was the most highly-rated show in cable history.
