Walter Reed Middle School Music Department Wins Gold, Gold, Gold
This past weekend, The Music Department from Walter Reed Middle School competed in the Heritage Festival in San Francisco. Three groups competed and each group won the top honors of Gold in their division. The 8th Grade Girls’ Concert Choir, led by Lisa Smith, received the first Gold award. They performed three songs including a selection from Bach’s Cantata #93 in German. The Orchestra, led by Stewart Rosen, also received top honors. The Wind Ensemble, led by KathRyn Howell, while teacher Jessica O’Rourke is on maternity leave, played solid and brought home the third gold for Reed. Both Lisa Smith and Stewart Rosen received special Adjudicator Awards for receiving the highest scores. The Orchestra and Choir were also awarded an “Elite Status” with an invitation to participate in a performance at Carnegie Hall.
The final 8th grade concert is on May 28th at 6:30pm. Tickets will be available at the door.
