Want To See Actress Gillian Anderson As 'Bond, JANE Bond'?

An online petition is underway urging Eon Productions to cast actress Gillian Anderson, star of the X-Files and The Fall, as the next Bond -- Jane Bond!

A member of Care2, a social-media network of activists, launched the petition after Anderson tweeted a Photoshopped image of herself as “Jane Bond” with the caption: “It's Bond. Jane Bond. Thanks for all the votes! #NextBond”

“The backlash for a female bond will be astounding, which is more proof that we need her,” said Care2 petition author Kelsey Bourgeois. “The misogyny the franchise has historically incarnated could be turned on its head with this gender switch up. Women can shoot, drink and get laid just like any man and it’s time we get to see that in a Bond film.”

"Daniel Craig has played the character in four films," Care2 said in a statement. "But there has been much speculation that he will not return to the role. Many have speculated actor and DJ Idris Elba or Homeland star Damian Lewis will take on the role, but those who have signed the Care2 petition believe it’s time for a female in the historically male role."

To date, the #GillianForBond petition has more than 3, 000 supporters, with a goal of 10,000.
