‘Warning Warning,’ ‘Danger, Will Robinson!’ Voice Actor Dies in Studio City

Dick Tufeld dies at age 85 while watching the playoffs.

Richard Norton “Dick” Tufeld, a voice actor who voiced the robot in the campy TV show Lost in Space—among other notable voices, died at his home in Studio City on Sunday at the age of 85.

Bill Mumy, Will Robinson, and Angela Cartwright, Penny from the old TV show, also live in Studio City.

Mumy said on his Facebook page: “'Danger! Danger!' Just won’t be the same without Dick saying it. Adios, amigo . . ."

Tufeld's family told The Los Angeles Times that he died while watching the NFL playoffs and he suffered from heart disease.

Tufeld was the voice on the 1950’s radio show Space Patrol and the announcer in Bugs Bunny and The Jetsons. More recently he worked on the 1978 Fantastic Four cartoon, Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends and Thundar the Barbarian.

He worked on shows such Zorro and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea on radio and worked with stars such as Milton Berle, Judy Garland, Julie Andrews, Tom Jones and many others.

But his claim to fame may always be the smart-aleck robot who was a companion to Dr. Smith in Lost in Space, saying lines like "That does not compute" and "Dr. Smith is a bubble-headed booby."

He even reprised the voice in the 1998 movie after having vocal chord surgery.

He is survived by his brother, Howard, sons Bruce and Craig, daughters Lynn and Melissa and grandchildren Jason, Amanda, Sammy, Tali, Aiden and Clara Rose.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Sinai in the Hollywood Hills.
