We're too busy right now!

With a nod to “A Connecticut Yankee”, this song is dedicated to all our elected representatives.  We wish you a happy summer vacation (or five-week recess) and we’re sure that when you return to our nation’s capitol you’ll give your undivided attention to our country’s serious problems which you neglected to handle in a timely manner before you ran to catch the plane for home or fill-in-the-blank-exotic-destination-on-our-behalf.  You’ve left town, once again, without handling the fiscal crisis, so I’m fairly sure that you’ll prefer to kick the can down the road and pass another “interim resolution”. 
We know you’ll want to compromise with your political foes and people across the aisle for the good of our country.  You’ll seek resolutions for: replacing our tax code, immigration, the farm bill, our lack of a foreign policy and finding ways to produce more wealth so we can keep all of our social programs in place. 
We know how much you favor the status quo so you can always have a good excuse for not solving problems. Those 500 page-plus bills are a cute maneuver to outfox the other guys but the joke is wearing thin.  By the way, why did you get a waiver from the Affordable Healthcare Act?
If it's good enough for all Americans, why isn't it good enough for you?  There's enough blame to go around for the reckless attitude you are projecting.  Look at your part in the mess you are creating.  Leadership is sorely lacking in your representation -- we'd appreciate it if you started taking your job seriously.  It's not a game of musical chairs to be held in 2014 and 2016. 
Are you working for us or is it now the other way around?  We look forward to all your Town Hall meetings. Enjoy the song for now.
