Why the Right First Cut is Important, and Why Kids Hate Haircuts Before School

The Yellow Balloon has 30 years of experiencing cutting kids' hair in Studio City.

It's back-to-school time for a lot of kids, and for many children, it means the first haircut of the summer.

Sure, parents let the hair get a bit straggly, but now it's time to cut out the chlorine-bleached green strands and get a haircut for when school begins.

"Children are reluctant to get their hair cuts because it means to them an end of their summer, and some don't want to go back to school," said Sabrina Feldman owner of the Yellow Balloon, which held a party Monday to make kids more comfortable getting their new coif for the year.

Feldman and her team of hair stylists worked with Little Artist Party owner Arsineh Hoonanian (www.littleartistparty.com) to do the party, and Arsineh brings her son Derek to the hair shop for his cut.

Feldman said she sees generations of families come to the shop. People come when they were children, and now they bring their children.
