After preliminary investigation, LAPD officials concluded Lana Rae Meisner, 63, shot herself while trying to retrieve a gun from the closet following the 911 call at their home on the 3700 block of Eureka Drive Sunday.
According to the LAPD, officers responded to a call at the home from a woman asking for help with an intoxicated man at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Officers took a domestic violence incident report and left the scene only to be called back at 7 p.m. for a shooting at the home.

"When officers arrived they found Mrs. Meisner suffering from a single gunshot wound," according to an LAPD statement. "Mrs. Meisner was moving a rifle that was stored inside a case in a closet. As she lifted the rifle in the case, another item within the case shifted and hit the trigger of the rifle causing it to fire and fatally injure Mrs. Meisner."
Assistant Chief Ed Winter said Meisner was pronounced dead at the scene in the 3700 block of Eureka Drive about 7:10 p.m. Sunday
Her husband cooperated with investigators throughout the investigation, according to police officials.
TMZ.com, citing undisclosed law enforcement sources, reported that when Lana Rae called 911, she claimed her husband was "waiving a BB gun and 'acting erratically. We're told at 4:45 a.m. Monday Randy was taken to the hospital after 'acting in an altered state.' "
According to TMZ, the couple had many conflicts in the past, and Randy's children had tried to get a conservatorship based on his alleged mental instability.
