2 Babies Found Near Trash Dumpster In Fairfield

Police responded to find newborn twins. A woman believed to be their mother has been detained while police investigate.

FAIRFIELD, CA — Two newborn babies were found Tuesday afternoon near a trash dumpster behind a strip mall on Pittman Road in the North Bay city of Fairfield. Police and fire personnel with the city of Fairfield responded at about 4:11 p.m. to the 300 block of Pittman Road to find twin infants, but no mother.

Sadly, one of the twin babies was already dead; the other was still alive and was reported to be in stable condition after being rushed to a hospital, according to police Lt. Jausiah Jacobsen.

An employee of a business at the strip mall initially called police and reported a woman appeared to have recently given birth to two babies on a sidewalk behind the business.

When police officers with the Solano County city first arrived, they found the twin infants but no mother, Jacobsen said.

"The first officer who arrived immediately started life-saving efforts on one of the newborns and turned care over to fire department personnel," Jacobsen said. "This infant was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition at this time. Unfortunately the other newborn was determined to have died prior to the officer’s arrival. "

The lieutenant said officers searched the area and found a woman on nearby Central Place who looked like she'd just given birth.

The woman was taken to a hospital and has been detained while police investigate, Jacobsen said.
