Gunman Triggers Fairfield Shelter-In-Place Order

The incident caused a brief shelter-in-place order in the neighborhood that was lifted at about 5:30 p.m. Monday.

A 59-year-old Fairfield man was arrested Monday after allegedly threatening people with a firearm.

Fairfield police officers responded to a call in the 1900 block of San Benito Street at about 4:45 p.m. from someone reporting a man had drawn a firearm inside a residence and was threatening occupants, according to a statement from the Fairfield Police Department.

Police made contact with the caller outside the residence, who reported a dependent adult was still inside with the allegedly armed man.

The Police Department deployed a drone and allegedly saw a man later identified as David Warburton place a rifle outside while remaining inside the residence.

Crisis negotiators contacted Warburton by phone and allegedly convinced him to surrender to officers after about 90 minutes.
The adult who was inside was unhurt.
