Assemblymember Jim Frazier invites Suisun children with special needs to free Delta fishing derby
The C.A.S.T. for Kids event will be held May 30 at Brannan Island State Recreation Area

Special-needs children ages 7 to 17 are invited to sign up for a free fun-filled day of Delta fishing on May 30.
At the C.A.S.T. (Catch a Special Thrill) for Kids event, children – who must be accompanied by a parent or guardian – are paired with expert anglers who teach the kids to fish while sharing their enthusiasm for the outdoors.
Check-in begins at 7 a.m. and fishing starts at 8 a.m. at Brannan Island State Recreation Area, just outside Rio Vista. Children will receive a fishing rod and reel, T-shirt, hat, tackle box and a commemorative plaque, all of which they may keep for future fun.
The fishing takes place on boats supplied by volunteers. After a morning of fishing, all participants return to shore for a barbecue lunch and awards ceremony.
The event is designed to introduce kids to the sport of fishing and the enjoyment of the Delta. It also increases awareness among all participants – parents, anglers and volunteers – about the capabilities of children with disabilities.
Event sponsors include Assemblymember Jim Frazier, D-Oakley; the Department of Water Resources; California State Parks, Division of Boating and Waterways; Department of Forestry and Fire Protection; California Conservation Corps; and American Land & Leisure.
Space is limited and priority will be given to first-time participants. Registration is required and can be made online at http://bit.ly/CAST4KIDS.
Boat captains also are needed to help more kids experience the beauty of the Delta. To volunteer, sign up online at http://bit.ly/CAST4KIDS.
