Burglary Suspect Shot By Fairfield Police In Critical Condition
Clay Bank Road was closed between Canal Street and Air Base Parkway early Tuesday morning as the officer-involved shooting was investigated.
FAIRFIELD, CA — A commercial burglary suspect was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot by officers early Tuesday morning in Fairfield, according to police. The suspected break-in at a business on Horizon Drive was reported at 2:10 a.m. via an alarm activation after a detection of glass being broken at the business, police said.
Officers immediately responded and saw a white male adult whom they believed to be the burglar, Fairfield police Sgt. Matt Bloesch said in a news release.
The man was walking away from the business and was holding what officers said appeared to be a handgun, according to Bloesch, who is a spokesperson for the Fairfield Police Department.

"The suspect refused to comply with officers' commands and fled toward Western St.," Bloesch said.
The officers reportedly chased the man at a distance as he fled through a commercial area.

"After several minutes of following the suspect officers were involved in a shooting resulting in the injury of the suspect," Bloesch said.
The officers provided emergency medical aid to the suspect before paramedics arrived and transported the gravely wounded man to a trauma center at a local hospital, the sergeant said.
At about 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, Fairfield police sent a Nixle alert stating that Clay Bank Road was closed between Canal Street and Air Base Parkway because of police activity — presumably the officer-involved shooting.
The person shot — his name was not disclosed — was listed in critical condition as of 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, according to Bloesch.
No officers were injured in the incident, according to the Fairfield Police Department.
Tuesday morning's news release about the officer-involved shooting did not include information on how many officers were involved, nor did Fairfield police say whether the officers had been placed on administrative leave.
Police said the department's investigations bureau and the Solano County District Attorney's Office are investigating the shooting.
