Community Garden Still A Success

The Community Garden, off Lotz Way next to the Marina Center, offers gardening for residents.

When locals created the Community Garden in June 2009, there were still 22 plots available and since then the garden has been a success.

Linda Taylor, who helps run the membership rolls with the Suisun City Recreation Department, said there are only four plots available right now out of 60 10' x 10' plots, for a $30 yearly fee.

"Most people like to make raised beds," Taylor said. Certainly, that's on display as dozens of raised beds carpet the Community garden area, although most are empty. Some look like tended year-round with plants bursting out as if its the middle of the harvest season (see pictures).

"They plant what they want as long as it's legal," Taylor said.

Taylor mentioned there is a section for organic gardeners and a separate section for those who like chemical fertilizer.

"It's really easy and it's only $30 for the whole year," Taylor said.
