60th Air Mobility Wing garners 21st Air Force Outstanding Unit Award

From the U.S. Air Force:

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. – The Secretary of the Air Force recently announced the 60th Air Mobility Wing as a recipient of the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for exceptionally meritorious service from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014.

This marks the 21st time since 1965 that the Travis wing has been awarded the AFOUA.

In order to be considered for this prestigious award, a unit must have distinguished themselves by exceptionally meritorious service or outstanding achievement that clearly sets the unit above and apart from similar units.

β€œI cannot be more proud of the men and women, both in and out of uniform, that make the 60th the wing it is today,” said Col. Corey Martin, 60th AMW commander. β€œThis honor is a true testament to the sacrifice, dedication and professionalism that each member exhibits on a daily basis. Today, like every day, I am humbled to command the best and brightest our Air Force has to offer.”

The 60th AMW serves as the largest air mobility organization in terms of personnel in the Air Force with a versatile fleet of C-5 Galaxy, C-17 Globemaster III, and KC-10 Extender aircraft.

Responsible for strategic airlift and air refueling missions, the unit can fly support missions anywhere in the world, fulfilling its motto of being β€œAmerica’s First Choice” for providing true Global Reach.

Throughout the one-year period, 60th AMW Airmen flew more than 1,600 missions, delivered more than 16,500 tons of cargo, and offloaded more than 159 million pounds of fuel during in-flight refueling in support of contingency operations and humanitarian relief.
