Congressman and member of the House Armed Services Committee John Garamendi (D-Fairfield) met with security officials at Travis Air Force Base Monday for an update on the baseβs security.

The Travis Regional Armed Forces Committee is a consortium of base officials who aim to connect Travis Air Force Base, the local community and civic leaders, according to the Office of Congressman Garamendi.
Since May, Travis Air Force Base increased random vehicle searches and the visible presence of armed security forces, according to Garamendi. Deterrence measures like these may help prevent βlone wolfβ terror attacks.

Though no one has made specific threats on Travis Air Force Base, the FBI says military bases are preferred targets for some ISIL-inspired jihadists.
βBase security is on everyoneβs mind in Congress. I need to know whatβs working and what we can do better to keep our bases as safe as possible from terrorists,β Garamendi said in a statement.
