In four of five options, Dan O. Root Elementary school is listed as a choice for school closure, more mentions on the list than any other elementary school except Oakbrook Elementary, which is also mentioned four times. Read Dan O. Root PTO's case for not closing the school.
In information about the potential choice to close Dan O. Root, the district cites that the school is at 66% of capacity, closure would transfer students to Suisun, Tolenas, Crescent and Cleo Gordon Elementary schools, and that closure would require some students to cross Highway 12 to get to school. Closure would also include five boundary changes. About 60 open-enrollment students would have to be reassigned.
Suisun Elementary school figures as a choice in two of the five options. In information about the school, the district said the school is at 74.1% capacity, its closure would transfer students to Dan O. Root, Crescent Elementary and Tolenas.
In potential closure notes, the district noted that Suisun Elementary has more capacity to take on neighboring students than Dan O. Root, and its closure would put neighboring schools at capacity. If closed, some students would be required to cross Highway 12 to get to Crescent Elementary, and its closure would require at least three boundary changes.
What do you think? Given the full range of options to the district, should it close one of these elementary schools?
