Update: Fairfield Dire Damages Homes, Closes Roads

The fire burned both vegetation and homes.

Update:

Authorities evacuated ten homes in Fairfield Monday afternoon, after a four-alarm grass fire broke out nearby.

Just before 4 p.m., dispatchers received calls reporting a grass fire happening in behind the 800 block of Taft Street, according to fire officials. When firefighters arrived, firefighters noted the fire was spreading quickly and evacuated the homes, on the south side of Taft Street, between North Texas and Eisenhower streets, authorities said.

Firefighters from all over Solano County assisted in combating the fire. Air tankers from Cal Fire also assisted, according to authorities.

The fire knocked down power lines in the area and about 4,200 PG&E customers were without power as a result. As of this morning, most customers’ power had been restored.

One home completely burned and another was moderately damaged, authorities said.

During the evacuations, two people went missing, however they were later accounted for, according to authorities.

No one was injured as a result of the fire, authorities said. The fire caused about $650,000 in damages. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to fire officials.

Fairfield police report a four-alarm fire that has damaged an unknown number of structures this evening.

Police reported the fire at about 4:30 p.m. in the vicinity of North Texas and Taft streets.

The Fairfield Fire Department, Fairfield Police Department, and the Solano County Sheriff’s Office responded to the fire.

Several road closures have been announced, including North Texas Street at Taft, North Texas Street at Empire Street, North Texas Street at East Kentucky Street and Taft Street at East Tennessee Street.

No injuries have been reported.

More information was not immediately available regarding the size of the fire, containment, or the number structures that have been damaged.
