Fairfield Officer-Involved Shooting Victim Had Replica Gun: Cops

The 22-year-old man remained hospitalized in critical condition.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — Fairfield police identified the person shot in an officer-involved shooting earlier this week as Christian Reyes, 22, and said Thursday that Reyes remained hospitalized in critical condition. Police also provided more details about the shooting, which happened at about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday on Crowley Lane, near Pennsylvania Avenue.

According to Fairfield police Spokesman Greg Hurlbut, two members of the Solano County Special Enforcement Team (SET), a Solano County sherriff’s deputy and Fairfield police Detective Robert Murray,were patrolling Crowley Lane and tried to stop Reyes as he was walking.

"As the officers approached Reyes, a brief foot chase began on Crowley Lane," Hurlbut said.

As the chase continued, Murray fired several shots when he saw Reyes reaching for a handgun in his waistband, Hurlbut said. The shots struck Reyes in his upper body.

Immediately after the shooting police allegedly found a replica firearm in Reyes' waistband.

An investigation of the officer-involved closed Crowley Lane for several hours Wednesday.

Fairfield police are still seeking witnesses as the investigation continues.

"If you witnessed this incident, or know of anyone that witnessed this incident, please call the Fairfield Police Department at 707-428-7300," Hurlbut said.
