Fairfield PAL Teen Center Launches REAL WORLD READY

New 10 session series blends WhyTry and Alive & Free's skill building with career pathway exploration, job shadowing, and networking.

Fairfield PAL Teen Center is launching REAL WORLD READY, a new 10 session program designed to help teens build practical life skills while getting a head start on what comes after high school. The program begins Friday, January 30 at 4:30 PM and is open to teens from Fairfield, Suisun, and Travis Air Force Base. Free dinner is provided every week, and participants who complete the program will receive a certificate.

REAL WORLD READY combines two of the Teen Center’s most trusted youth development approaches, WhyTry and Alive & Free, into one streamlined experience.

WhyTry

WhyTry is a skills-based program that helps teens understand how thoughts, habits, and reactions shape outcomes. It gives students practical tools for handling stress, recognizing patterns, and making choices that keep options open.

Alive & Free

Alive & Free focuses on decision making, resilience, and real-world coping skills. It helps young people strengthen self-control, build healthy habits, and navigate pressure with confidence. Created by Dr. Joesph Marshall with the Omega Boys Club, Alive & Free offers a practical prescription to help teens succeed.

Why the blend matters

Together, WhyTry and Alive & Free support the outcomes REAL WORLD READY is built to deliver, including learning ways to deal with stress without shutting down or fighting, understanding habits, triggers, and patterns, and having honest conversations about real challenges teens face. Participants also learn why they think or respond the way they do, and how to make choices that do not lock them in later.

Added focus on what comes next

In addition to the weekly sessions, REAL WORLD READY gives teens an early jump on life after graduation through guided exploration of career pathways, along with job shadowing and networking opportunities. Career pathways will be shaped by the interests of participants, so teens can explore options that match what they are curious about and where they want to go next.

Why this program is important

Teens are expected to make bigger decisions each year about school, work, relationships, and their future, often without a structured place to practice those skills. REAL WORLD READY provides a positive environment where teens can build coping tools, strengthen decision making, and begin connecting to real opportunities and mentors, while also earning a certificate that can support school and job goals.
