Fairfield Police, Resident Cap Potentially Violent Situation

The incident unfolded this morning in Lee Bell Park.

A resident and police capped a potentially violent situation in Fairfield this morning, according to the Fairfield Police Department.

A resident called police at about 12:50 a.m. to report that a person with a gun was walking in Lee Bell Park and that the person had fired two shots in the air as he was walking, police said. Several police units responded and officers located a person matching the description of the suspect.

Police said that when officers tried to make contact with the suspect he fled through the park and across Union Avenue.

Police set up a perimeter near Oregon and Jefferson streets and were able to detain the suspect as he tried to walk out of the perimeter, according to police. The suspect had discarded some outer clothing before trying the breach the police perimeter and officers found the clothing and the gun along the path the suspect took as he fled through the park.

Police arrested 36-year-old Fairfield resident Jason Fortune and booked him into the Solano County Jail on an outstanding warrant and several gun-related charges.

No one was injured and no property damaged when Fortune fired the gun.
