First Earth Day Celebration Planned For Suisun City
Mission Solano will host the first Earth Day event at Suisun Waterfront

Mission Solano wants you to join them inย the many activities they have plannedย for Suisun City's first Earth Day celebration on April 23.
The nonprofit that has many Fairfield sites aimed at helping to feed the homeless and providing shelter and services, will be hosting the event at the Suisun Waterfront.
โSuisun City is such a beautiful place,โ said Rod Malloy, Chief Operations Officer at Mission Solano. โIt has such a wonderful outdoor element, and part of a wonderful county, that we really wanted to do something special.โ

The festivities kick off at 9:30 a.m. when Mission Solano will be handing out t-shirts and welcoming guests. At 10 a.m. volunteers will participate in a community cleanup effort around the area. There will also be kayak sprint races at the Harbor, an event sponsored by Sunset Bay Kayaks of Suisun City, at the same time. At 1 p.m. Mission Solano will plant a tree.
Malloy said the Earth Day celebration is the second of seven events it is planning within the seven cities of Solano County. Previously, the nonprofit held a Valentineโs Day Gala at the Jelly Belly Factory; the third event will be a June luau in Dixon. At each of the events, there is a special award ceremony in which a resident of the city receives the organizationโs Duncan Miller Volunteer of the Year Award. The award ceremony will be at 2 p.m.

โThe award is named after a Vacaville resident," said Malloy. "A guy who, by himself, just did a lot to reach out to help the hungry in the community.โ
The ceremony will also feature Mary Kay makeovers for women of Mission Solanoโs Bridge to Life center. will be providing the space for the makeovers.
Guests can alsoย bring their unwanted paper to Shred It, a document destruction company. Companies such as Solano Garbage Company and Potrero Hills Landfill will have booths set up in the area.
โAll the companies will have some kind of either recycling, alternative energy or some kind of product or service thatโs beneficial for the Earth,โ said Malloy.
Anyone wishing to volunteer for the community clean up can go to Mission Solanoโs website to sign up. Participation in the kayak sprint races costs $15 which will be donated to Mission Solano. Additionally, donations for makeovers can be made to sponsor the ladies of Bridge to Life on the website. The โHope Packageโ sponsors a complete makeover for $25.
