​Habitat’s Nancy Nelson Honored by Senator Bill Dodd

FAIRFIELD -- Green Valley architect Nancy Nelson, who devoted countless hours designing houses for Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity as a 10-year member of its governing board, has been named 2019 Woman of the Year for Solano County by Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa.

“It takes many hands to build a house but none have been more effective for Napa and Solano counties as Nancy’s,” Sen. Dodd said. “Her leadership and devotion to creating simple, decent and affordable housing has been invaluable. We are truly blessed to have someone of Nancy’s caliber working to help those in need.”

Nancy Nelson is a project manager with Benicia-based OAG Architects Inc. She has served on the Habitat board since 2009 and designed the last seven houses built by the non-profit. She has a passion for affordable, energy-efficient housing. Also, she has served on the Green Valley Agricultural Conservancy board and was a member of the county’s Orderly Growth committee.

“Working alongside the Habitat staff and volunteers reassures my belief in the goodness of people,” Nancy Nelson said. “The journey through life is not always easy and I think we are at our best when we help each other out along the way. It is hard to describe all the feelings that come from helping a struggling family achieve home ownership, but I can tell you that it gives my life meaning, and brings me joy.”
