North Bay Tragedy: What Caused Crash That Killed 1, Injured 5 Others On Vallejo Sidewalk?

A Suisun City man, 65, veered off the road Friday afternoon. Drugs, alcohol, medical condition? Police are investigating.

Vallejo police are trying to determine if alcohol and drugs or a medical condition led to a deadly crash Friday afternoon in which a Suisun City man struck and injured six pedestrians on the sidewalk, one of whom died at the scene.

The 65-year-old man was traveling north in a silver 2012 Nissan Versa just before 3:30 p.m. today on the 3600 block of Sonoma Boulevard near Redwood Street when he veered up on to the east sidewalk for an unknown reason, according to police.

The Nissan struck a shopping cart and hit a 47-year-old Vallejo resident sitting on a bench at a bus stop. It then continued north, striking a utility pole and a group of five pedestrians walking north on the sidewalk, which included a 4-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy, according to police.
