Pair Accused Of Robbing Driver After Crash: Fairfield Police

Police said the victim was robbed as he tried to call police about the collision.

FAIRFIELD, CA — A 20-year-old Fairfield man and 21-year-old Fairfield woman are accused of robbing a man after getting in a vehicle collision with him, Fairfield police said in a news release.

The incident allegedly involving Victoria Mendes and Isaiah Getty-Matthews was reported just after midnight Tuesday in the 1000 block of Oliver Road, according to police.

The victim told police he was robbed by two people after he tried to call police about a car crash he was in with the pair, said Fairfield police Investigator Jausiah Jacobsen.

"While the victim was attempting to photograph the vehicles and call police, the male suspect began to violently assault him and steal his personal property," Jacobsen said. "The male suspect, along with a female suspect then fled the scene in their vehicle."

The victim provided police with descriptions of his alleged attackers, the kind of car they were in and their license plate number, Jacobsen said.

Officers ultimately located the suspect vehicle later that day, at which point Mendes was identified as the female suspect and taken into custody, Jacobsen said.

Officers then went to Mendes' residence in the 3000 block of North Texas Street, where they found Getty-Matthews.

Jacobsen said Getty-Matthews was positively identified as the male suspect and was arrested.

During his arrest, Getty-Matthews was found in possession of a loaded handgun, according to Jacobsen.

As the investigation continued, detectives got a search warrant for the N. Texas Street residence.

"Detectives were able to locate evidence from the robbery along with a substantial quantity of suspected cocaine," Jacobsen said.

Mendes was arrested on suspicion of robbery, while Getty-Matthews was arrested on suspicion of the robbery, illegal weapon violations and possession of a firearm with controlled substances.

Fairfield police said Friday the case has been referred to the Solano County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of the charges and prosecution.

"We’d like to commend the victim on his bravery during this incident and his ability to gather enough information to identify the suspects so the police could arrest them," Jacobsen said.
