Police Say Drunk Driving May Have Caused Fatal Accident in Nearby Fairfield

Two people died in the early morning collision.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- Police in Fairfield are investigating whether drunk driving was involved in a collision that killed two people early the morning of Dec. 21.

The crash was reported at about 12:25 a.m. on Peabody Road north of Hammond Drive.

The people who died were in a Lincoln sedan. They were unable to escape the vehicle and suffered significant burns, according to Fairfield Police Sgt. Jeff Osgood.

Their names are not yet being released because their next of kin have not been notified.

The male driver of a Ford SUV suffered life-threatening injuries. A bystander helped the Ford driver out of the vehicle after the crash.

Osgood would not comment about which driver may have been driving while impaired.

The collision closed Peabody Road until around 11:45 a.m.
