Benicia Man Found Dead In Fairfield; Police Release Suspect Photo

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — Fairfield police believe that a 28-year-old Benicia man found dead Wednesday morning in a parking lot was killed by someone he knew. An investigation into the suspected homicide in the 1200 block of Empire Street got under way at about 6 a.m. when police received a report of a man down in a parking lot. Detectives and crime scene investigators responded and part of Empire Street — near Pennsylvania Avenue — was shut down at the scene.

"The investigation so far shows that this was not a random act and that the victim and suspect knew each other," Fairfield police Spokeswoman Kathryn McCormick said in an update Wednesday afternoon. "We are releasing a photo of a male who we believe may have more information regarding this homicide."

Fairfield police asked anyone who recognizes the man in the photo to call 911 or their local police agency.

"If you see him, do not approach him..." McCormick said.

Police are withholding the victim's name until his family members are properly notified.

The investigation was ongoing Wednesday afternoon and no further information will be released at this time, McCormick said.

Information can also be submitted anonymously by texting "TIP FAIRFIELD PD" along with a message to 888777. Anyone who calls or text can remain anonymous, McCormick said.
