Solano Co. Man, Accomplice Arrested After Attempted Theft From Hotel Garage: Police

The armed pair fled on foot onto I-680, jumped a soundwall and hid in a garage before apprehension, police said. [Breaking]

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA – Two men from Martinez and Fairfield were arrested today for allegedly attempting to steal construction equipment from a hotel garage in the East Bay and pulling guns on an employee who tried to stop them, according to police.

The suspects were identified as Edward Garofalo, 28 of Martinez and Luis Guerrero, 35 of Fairfield.

Walnut Creek police were called at 11:43 a.m. to a Marriott on North Main Street in the city for the report of an attempted theft by two males who fled on foot onto nearby I-680, the department said.

The men reportedly pointed guns at the hotel employee who confronted the pair, and officers spotted the duo on the freeway -- one with gun in hand, police said.

The suspects jumped a sound wall near the intersection of Riviera and Pringle avenues, where witnesses reported seeing them run into a garage on the 100 block of Pringle, police said.

Walnut Creek officers set up a perimeter around the building and within minutes both suspects were seen fleeing. After a short foot chase, the two were apprehended without further incident, police said. Two firearms were recovered, police said.

Garofalo and Guerrero were arrested on numerous charges including suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing firearms, being felons in possession of firearms, carrying concealed weapons, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place and conspiracy to commit crime.

Guerrero was also arrested for suspected possession of stolen property and on a warrant for violating the terms of his Post Release Community Supervision, police said.
