'Suicide By Cop' Didn't Work in Suisuin City

Police arrested a man Sunday after he allegedly walked into the Suisun City Police Department lobby armed with loaded handgun, indicating he wanted to be shot by an officer, according to police.

Around 10:30 a.m., 29-year-old Suisun City resident Thong Yang arrived at the station, located at 701 Civic Center Blvd., police said.

After Yang indicated his intention, officers engaged in crisis communications with him for about 30 minutes, police said.

During the incident a 911 dispatching center located adjacent to the lobby was evacuated, according to police.

Eventually officers were able to talk Yang into surrendering and officers detained him, police said. Officers found Yang to be in possession of an AR-15 rifle.

Yang had numerous large capacity magazines for the rifle, some of which had been modified to allow the higher capacity, police said.

Yang was the suspect in a shots fired incident on Friday. Police believe Yang used the same rifle in that incident.

Officers arrested Yang on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm in a public building, threatening an officer, discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of high capacity magazines, brandishing a firearm in the presence of a police officer as well as burglary, according to police. Yang is being held on $2 million bail at the Solano County Jail.

In addition to the arrest, officers also served a search warrant at a residence in the Village Apartments, located in the 600 block of Civic Center Blvd., in relation the investigation, police said.
