Suisun City Weekend Planner September 9-11

From an evening of Remembrance and a Memorial Ceremony to a Day in the Country, here's what's going on nearby.

Saturday:

Members of the Fairfield Professional Firefighters’ Association and Local 1186 Firefighters invite you to attend an evening of remembrance. The guest speaker is Robert Milmore, a retired firefighter from the New York Fire Department. The DJ-ed evening will also include a fundraiser benefiting widows and orphans of 9/11. Dinner, catered by Canepa Catering, will include rotisserie chicken, pasta, vegetables, salad, bread and dessert.

If you go: The event is $15 and can be paid at the door. Please RSVP to Kyle Smith at ksmith@ci.fairfield.ca.gov or Chris Fleshman at (707) 365-9267. The event is open to firefighters and law enforcement as well as city and state dignitaries. Fairfield Community Center is at 1000 Kentucky Street in Fairfield.

It was the largest terrorist attack on American soil.Β  Come together as a community to fulfill the promise we made as Americans on Sept. 11, 2001, "We will never forget." If you have children younger than middle school, they may not know what 9/11/01 means; here's an opportunity to teach them some of their history. Β A steel beam from the World Trade Centers will be at the center of the commemoration ceremony today in the Harbor Plaza.

The Yolo Land Trust annual fundraiser, A Day in the CountryΒ will be at Park Winters,Β the 1865Β Victorian home and gardensΒ on the George Washington Scott Ranch.Β  Enjoy delicious seasonalΒ dishes by top chefs, sample from over twenty Yolo CountyΒ growers and vineyards.Β  Additionally, there will be tunes by the Plainfield Pickers and a lively kid's corner.Β  A Day in the Country is an opportunity to support Yolo Land Trust, working toward saving Yolo County farmland forever.

If you go: Tickets are $90 and the event is from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Park Winters, 27850 County Road in Winters.
