Top Five Reasons to be a Volunteer Tutor at Fairfield PAL
Volunteering opportunities available!

- Tutoring works. One-on-one tutoring, group tutoring, study skills workshops, and other ways of learning make a measurable difference for students. When you show up to help a studentβyou show them they are worth investing in.
- You get more than you give. Volunteer tutoring is rewarding. You have the chance to make a real difference in the life of a teen and ultimately, in Fairfield and the greater community. Volunteer tutoring is easy and fun, and you get to experience your studentβs positive responses and growth. AND IT LOOKS GREAT TO FUTURE SCHOOLS AND EMPLOYEERS. As a volunteer tutor at the PAL Center, you will gain value references, improve your skills, and create an outstanding work history portfolio that will get you notice.
- Youβre the expert. Volunteers get to share what they know, not only about the subject matter, but how success in school has made a difference in their lives. And, when you do not know the answer, you have a chance to teach a student how to find it out together.
- Itβs flexible, and predictable. Once you complete the short orientation and background paperwork to be a PAL volunteer, you can tutor as your schedule allows. You can come for one hour a week, one day a week, twice a month, or simply when you have free time. You can drop and offer direct tutoring or you can lead engaging workshops and curriculum that fall in your own wheelhouse!
- All eyes are on you. Everyone loves attention, and tutoring allows you to provide it. The attention can bolster the studentβs sense of self-worth and self-confidence. And, students who form good relationships with tutors may feel more positively about relationships with others.
