Unique Opportunity For Volunteer Leaders In Suisun City
Solano County's free Healthier Living program needs enthusiastic adults to help with workshops.

From the Area Agency on Aging:
Solano County Public Health Division and the Area Agency on Aging Serving Napa and Solano are looking for 20 unique volunteer leaders who will help others better manage chronic conditions including high blood pressure, heart and respiratory diseases.
The free Healthier Living program needs dedicated volunteers to be trained to co-facilitate two chronic disease self-management workshops each year.

βAn ideal candidate for a Healthier Living program lay leader is an adult who has a chronic disease and/or who cares for someone with a chronic condition. He or she should feel comfortable leading group discussions, be committed to helping other people and enthusiastic about facilitating workshops,β saidDianna Gonzalez, Area Agency on Aging Healthier Living workshops coordinator. βNo prior medical or teaching background is needed as leaders will be using the highly acclaimed βHealthier Livingβ curriculum developed by Stanford University.β
Healthier Living workshops have been offered throughout Solano County since 2012.

The free series of six, 2.5-hour workshops includes practical ways to manage chronic conditions by controlling stress, anxiety and pain, goal setting and problem solving, healthy eating and ways to be active.
βChronic diseases are the leading cause of death and disability in the United States, and helping people with chronic diseases learn to better manage their conditions will help reduce the personal and societal burden of chronic disease in the United States,β said Robin Cox, health education manager with Solano Public Health.
The free facilitator training will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 12, 13, 17 and 18 at NorthBay Healthcare, 1010 Nut Tree Rd., Vacaville. Breakfast and lunch are included.
To become certified as lay leaders, participants must attend all four days.
The free training is made possible by Solano County Public Health, Partners 4 Healthy Solano, with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The training is limited to 20 people.
